The Powerhouse Team of PRP and Microneedling

We elevate the results of our microneedling in Chicago by incorporating platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in the treatment. When PRP is introduced to microneedling, skin tissue repair and regeneration is boosted. Both microneeding and PRP are excellent treatments on their own, but when they are teamed up, their effectiveness is amplified.

What do These Treatments Address?

Although microneedling can be used to treat scars and stretch marks almost anywhere on the body, PRP treatments are designed for the face only. Microneedling is traditionally used to treat everything from age spots and wrinkles to scarring and other forms of hyperpigmentation. PRP injections may boost these effects and help to achieve the desired results more quickly.

On its own, microneedling can:

  • Shrink enlarged pores
  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improve brown spots and hyperpigmentation
  • Lift, firm, and rejuvenate the skin
  • Decrease stretch marks and scarring

Microneedling and the Wound Repair Response

Microneedling works by triggering your body’s wound repair response. This response consists of the three following phases:

  • Inflammation: When the needles penetrate the skin, your immune system instantly begins working to disinfect the holes and remove debris, increase blood flow, and create new tissue.
  • Proliferation: The hole (wound) is reconstructed with new cells, as well as new collagen and elastin. In addition, a new network of blood vessels is created.
  • Remodeling: The wound is re-built with brand-new dermal tissues and blood vessels. “Old” collagen is replaced with new, stronger collagen.

How Does PRP Work?

Platelet-rich plasma comes from your very own blood. The platelets that are inside the blood contain dozens of growth factors, which help the skin to heal, stimulate skin tissue repair and regeneration, and kick-start new collagen and elastin production. This process results in skin that’s firmer, more radiant, healthier, and more youthful-looking. The microneedling ensures that the PRP reaches very deeply into the skin for optimal results.

What to Expect During the Procedure

Our microneedling in Chicago takes approximately one hour and 30 minutes when PRP is included.  The procedure is as follows:

Collection

A small blood sample will be taken from your vein, just like you have done at the doctor’s office.

Extraction

Your blood sample will be put inside a machine to separate the red blood cells from the platelet-rich plasma.

Preparation

Your skin will be cleansed and numbed with an anesthetic.

Treatment

The microneedling device will pass over your skin, creating tiny punctures to stimulate collagen production. The platelet-rich plasma will be incorporated into this procedure.

Recovery and Results

Red/pink skin and swelling are very common after a microneedling with PRP treatment, and typically last for about 24 hours. Once the redness subsides, you will discover that your skin has a radiant glow that will continue to look better and better over the following weeks. We usually recommend a series of 3-6 treatments scheduled 4-6 weeks apart for the best results.

Is microneedling better than Botox?

Why do my wrinkles look worse after microneedling?

How long do microneedling results last?

How much does microneedling with PRP cost?

Microneedling with PRP takes 90 minutes and cost between $700-$1,200. As each individual case is unique, the final cost would be determined after a detailed consultation with one of our experienced providers who can recommend the best course of treatment.

Do dermatologists recommend microneedling?

Yes. Dermatologists recommend microneedling to boost penetration of topical skincare and to plump the skin and help reduce fine lines and wrinkles. According to one study, microneedling may be as effective as resurfacing devices such as laser treatments when it comes to reducing acne scars.

Is microneedling better than Botox?

Microneedling achieves a wider range of results than Botox. Botox resolves wrinkles and fine lines and helps the area look and feel smoother. Microneedling can also improve the appearance of wrinkles, and it helps address other concerns to achieve firmer, plumper, and healthier skin.

Why do my wrinkles look worse after microneedling?

At first, your skin may look slightly worse after your microneedling treatment. But your wrinkles aren’t actually made worse by microneedling. What some people mistake for worsened wrinkles is actually just the effect of the skin recovering, a natural part of the rejuvenation process. The skin tightening and renewal will become apparent within a period of days and weeks.

How long do microneedling results last?

Patients can expect the results of their microneedling treatments to last for about six months. How long the results last depends on the degree of your skin concerns and the condition of your collagen production or the degree of collagen deficit you have. The effect of microneedling treatment on acne scars is extremely long lasting.
