How Hi-Definition Liposuction Works
Hi-definition liposuction is a state-of-the-art technology that performs liposuction with added precision, better contouring, and reduced bruising and swelling. This is achieved by masterfully detaching fat cells from the connective tissue (cavitation) and separating tissue from the muscles—leaving the important connective tissue intact. It’s an excellent combination of power and control, with the ability to address both large and delicate areas in a gentle manner because it liquefies the fat before removing it from the body.
Performed by our plastic surgeons from the University of Illinois at Chicago, liposuction is prepared by filling the area with a saline solution in order to expand the fatty layer. This saline solution does two things: it numbs the area to keep the patient more comfortable, and also shrinks the blood vessels to help with blood loss and bruising. After this, a special probe is inserted through a very small incision (much like in traditional liposuction). This probe will administer ultrasonic energy, which gently breaks up the fat from the connective tissue as soon as the probe touches the fat.
This gives the fat a very soft consistency, which makes it easier to remove without aggressive suctioning. The fat is detached from the nerves and blood vessels without damaging anything else around it. The average amount of recovery time after hi-definition liposuction is 2-3 days, with residual bruising or swelling lasting for about 1-2 weeks. Final results are apparent at three months, and are long-lasting if the patient maintains a healthy lifestyle, with frequent exercise and a balanced diet.
