Am I a Candidate for Hi-Definition Liposuction?

Good candidates for this procedure are people that:

  • Are looking to remove specific areas of fat
  • Are already near or at their goal weight
  • Are looking for more body definition in their results than with traditional liposuction
  • Do not have too much excess skin
  • Are not currently pregnant or nursing
  • Have a good understanding and realistic expectations for what the procedure can do for them

The Procedure

Hi-definition liposuction’s increased precision is attained by carefully detaching fat cells from connective tissue and separating tissue from the muscles, leaving vital tissues intact. It is performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation.

Small incisions are made to be a port for the VASER probe and cannula. A saline solution combined with an anesthetic is injected to expand the fatty layer and shrink blood vessels. The VASER probe is then inserted through the incision to begin the liposuction.

The probe emits ultrasonic energy to liquefy the fat cells, making them easier to remove. As fat cells are liquefied, a cannula (a small, thin tube) is inserted to gently suction out the fat in a precise manner. The last part of the process is the artistic sculpting that sets apart our hi-definition liposuction in Chicago.

The length of the procedure will depend on what areas are being treated and the amount of fat being removed.

Preparing for the Procedure

Preparing for the surgery can have a significant impact on the results. It greatly reduces the risk of complications and can help ensure a smooth recovery. For starters, it is recommended that patients avoid certain medications and supplements for at least two weeks prior to the surgery. Aspirin, Vitamin E, and Ibuprofen are just a few of the many medications that can act as blood thinners, causing unwanted bleeding during the procedure.

Smokers are also encouraged to quit all nicotine use for the four weeks leading up to and following the operation. This is because nicotine restricts blood vessels, which can cause a delay in the healing process. It should also be mentioned that drinking lots of water, eating healthy, and exercising are highly recommended, as a healthy lifestyle will ensure the body gets plenty of nutrients.

Above all else, it’s important to make sure that you arrange a ride after the procedure and have your home prepared for a smooth recovery. Taking these steps is essential both for having peace of mind going into surgery and for the recovery process.

Recovery

Recovery after High-definition VASER liposuction in Chicago usually takes two to three days. It is recommended that you get plenty of rest in the first twelve hours following the procedure and avoid all strenuous activity for at least two to three weeks. Any bruising or swelling should taper off within one to two weeks. It is normal to have some discomfort.

Results typically set in at around three to six months after the treatment. Maintaining a healthy weight and diet will ensure that results last a long time. Large weight gains can potentially tarnish the progress made.
