Lifting, re-shaping, and re-contouring the breasts is an extremely common procedure for women who have experienced sagging, stretching, or deflation of the breasts. These conditions often develop due to age, gravity, genetics, pregnancy, or breastfeeding and can be handled with our breast lift in Chicago.

What to Expect

During Your Consultation

The first step in undergoing a breast lift in Chicago at Beautify at AMS, is the consultation: the meeting where you will discuss your goals with the surgeon. During this meeting, you will talk about what you dislike about your breasts, your desired outcome, and your lifestyle.

The doctor will examine your breasts, assess your skin quality and elasticity, take your medical history, and possibly take “before” photos. This consultation is the best time to ask anything you want to know regarding the procedure, the incisions/scarring, recovery, and results.

Be sure to bring up any concerns you may have. This meeting is also where you will be told the cost of the procedure. 

Breast Lift Surgery Details

Each breast lift procedure at Beautify at AMS is painstakingly customized to address the physical, emotional, and lifestyle needs of each unique patient. The procedure is performed with the patient under general anesthesia, takes 2-3 hours if being done on its own (without additional procedures). 

There are different types of incisions that can be used for a breast lift: circumareolar, lollipop, or anchor. The type of incision used for your surgery will depend on your specific condition, breast tissue, genetics, weight and hormonal fluctuations, and your desired results. During your consultation, you will be told in detail about the type of incision that will be used in your procedure. 

Once the incision has been made, your surgeon will remove the excess, stretched-out breast skin. After this, the breast tissue will be lifted to a higher position on the chest and the breast tissue will be contoured. Some patients may also need an areola reduction or re-centering, which can be performed without detaching the nipple. Once these steps are complete, your surgeon will close the incisions.

What Other Procedures Go with a Breast Lift?

Breast lift surgeries are often performed in conjunction with complementary cosmetic procedures such as a tummy tuck or tissue removal, which can improve asymmetrical breasts and assist with minor breast reductions. It can also be performed as part of a mommy makeover. It’s important for patients to understand that a breast lift is not a breast enhancement.

A breast lift alone simply brings balance and proportion to the breasts. If you would like your breasts to be larger in addition to being lifted, you will need a breast augmentation as well. This is very commonly done in combination with a breast lift. 

Recovery and Results

You can expect to wear a surgical bra after your breast lift to help with healing. You may experience mild tenderness, bruising, and swelling for 1-2 weeks. Do not put any pressure on your chest during recovery, including lying down on your front. Refrain from high-intensity physical activity for up to six weeks. 

Early results can be seen a few weeks following your breast lift, with finalized results visible at approximately six months. The lifespan of a breast lift will depend on each individual patient’s condition, breast tissue, genetics, weight, and hormonal fluctuations.
